Use this reflection
Reflect on account protection, updates, safe sharing and recovery. Review six habits and choose one practical action, without entering passwords or account details.
Think about your recent practice. Choose the rating that best matches what you can currently demonstrate, rather than the answer you would like to give.
Ratings and scoring
Answer all six prompts. Each answer contributes equally: 0 = not yet or unsure; 1 = started, but need support; 2 = can do this with some checking; 3 = can demonstrate this consistently. Total: 0–18. There are no right answers and no pass mark.
- 0–6: Start with one practical habit.
- 7–12: Strengthen consistency through practice.
- 13–18: Review your evidence and maintain your habits.
These are RDE editorial reflection bands, chosen to group the equal-weight ratings. They are not validated thresholds, comparisons with other people or a diagnostic assessment. Two people with the same total may need different actions. Review your lowest-rated prompt first.
Questions and a practical next step
- I use a strong, separate password for my main email account.
Review your email password through the genuine service settings. Use a strong separate password and a trusted password manager where appropriate.
- I enable two-step verification for important accounts where it is available.
Open the genuine account security settings and review the available verification and recovery options.
- I keep supported software and apps updated.
Check update settings on your own device. Follow your organisation’s process on managed equipment.
- I verify an unusual request through a contact route I already trust.
Practise finding a known contact independently of the message. Do not use its supplied link or phone number to verify it.
- I check the recipient, permissions and sensitive contents before sharing a file.
Review a fictional practice file and its sharing permissions before sending it.
- I have practised recovering a non-sensitive file from a backup.
Use a harmless practice file to test recovery. Do not overwrite or experiment with important originals.
Turn reflection into practice
Choose one suggested action from your lowest-rated prompts. On your own paper, record what you will try, when you will review it and what evidence you will look for. You may revisit the tool after practising. A changed self-rating is a conversation starter, not proof of improvement.
Limitations and data handling
This is a habits reflection, not a security audit. A score cannot establish that your accounts or devices are safe. All questions and scoring are original RDE learning prompts. The source below supports the topic, not the scoring system.
The interactive assessment processes answers in this browser only. It does not send your answers, store them in cookies or browser storage, or add them to an account. Reset clears the answers and results; reloading also clears them. The website still receives ordinary page requests. Do not enter passwords, client information or personal details. If JavaScript is unavailable, use the questions and scoring instructions above on paper.
