Define the review scope

Choose the page or practice design and record its version. State which tasks and checks you will examine. A first review can identify issues, but it cannot establish that every accessibility requirement has been met.

W3C’s Easy Checks introduces selected checks and explains that a fuller assessment is needed. Use the official instructions alongside this RDE recording aid. The checklist does not reproduce the full standard or act as a compliance certificate.

Follow the check instructions

Review headings, image descriptions, form labels and keyboard use using the linked guidance. Record what you did and what happened. A missing or unclear result should remain visible rather than being marked complete because the page looks tidy.

In a fictional booking page, try the relevant keyboard route and note where focus moves. If a control cannot be reached or the focus position is unclear, record the specific task and control for investigation.

Capture useful evidence

Describe the issue, the page location and the method used to observe it. Keep an evidence reference and an owner for follow-up. Separate a confirmed observation from a question that needs specialist review.

Do not generalise one check into an assertion that the whole service is accessible. Different pages, devices and assistive technologies can expose different difficulties. Include appropriate expertise and users in the wider evaluation process.

Plan the next review

Download the PDF or Word checklist and use a fictional or authorised page. Record checks completed, work needed and areas outside scope. Choose a next action and retest relevant behaviour after a correction.

The purpose is to make observations usable by the team. Keep personal details out of public practice records. Use W3C guidance and your organisation’s evaluation process when planning a complete accessibility assessment.

Source and practice note

The linked official guidance provides background. Examples, exercises and record layouts are original RDE learning material. Use fictional content for practice and follow your organisation’s research, accessibility and information-handling procedures.
