Choose the reader question
Start with a question your intended reader is likely to ask in a particular situation. Identify what they need to understand or do after reading. A broad topic such as digital marketing is harder to shape than a specific question about preparing one service page.
In a fictional freelance design practice, the reader wants to know what information to prepare before asking for an event page. The content can provide a short preparation guide instead of a general announcement about the designer’s expertise.
Select useful material
Choose details that directly help answer the question. Google’s guidance emphasises helpful content created for people. Use that principle to review whether the material supplies an answer rather than simply repeating phrases you hope people will search for.
Include a relevant example, a clear explanation and a practical next step. Distinguish observed facts from your opinion. Check factual statements against reliable sources and remove claims that you cannot support.
Make the content usable
Use descriptive headings and straightforward language. Explain unfamiliar terms and give images useful descriptions. If the article includes a downloadable preparation aid, check that the document matches the guidance and opens correctly.
Keep the action proportionate to the reader’s needs. A person gathering information may need a checklist before they need a consultation. Avoid treating every article as a demand to buy immediately.
Review and learn
Ask a reviewer whether the content answers the original question. Record what remains unclear and revise the draft. Choose a sensible way to observe usefulness, such as relevant feedback or whether readers can complete the described preparation task.
Practise with a fictional article outline. Record the reader question, evidence, example and next step. Search visibility and business results are not guaranteed by this planning exercise, and a large audience count alone does not establish that the content helped.
Source and practice note
The official guidance provides background. Examples, exercises and record layouts are original RDE learning material. Use fictional details for practice and follow your organisation’s approval and information-handling procedures.
